Possibly one of my favorite destinations in Europe, Portugal ended up delivering on all my favorite counts – culture, food and weather. I’m currently planning a second trip to explore the beautiful cities of this Iberian gem – this time with the possibility of an extended stay.
Lisbon was the first stop on our trip and what a great introduction to Portugal it was. The neighborhood of Alfama provided so many beautiful backdrops, buildings, textures, shops, people and light, there was no shortage of photo opportunities. With its idyllic weather, laidback citizens and absolutely fantastic restaurants and cuisine, Lisbon turned out to be one of those “why haven’t I visited earlier?!” cities. One of my favorite moments I still look back on today is flinging our Airbnb‘s wooden shutters open and hearing women singing Fado in the streets – for no apparent reason. Life is just too sweet in Lisbon not to sing about it.
